A love Affair: I have a passion for writing. I'm ruled by my emotions. During my undergradaute career I had a love affair with English literature (my major). Romance, revenge, and redemption were themes that persisted through the many poems, plays, and sonnets I read. Like a true counterpart, literature challenged my thinking and gave me words and sonnets that could describe the feelings I could never articulate. Books and novels served as a secret get away for me and I will forever be indebted to the great writers who came before me. Literature will always be my first love.
The Bubble Gum Crush: Though English literature managed to steal my heart, I've always had an interest in the history of women. How did we evolve from people who performed menial tasks to managers, directors, and CEO's? Is it possible for a woman to be a wonderful wife, mother, and worker? Can women really have it all or will there life forever be on that is ruled of compromise? As a woman, I neded to get all of these qusetions (and many more answered). To listen and learn from the voices less heard, I picked up a minor in Studies of women and gender.
The Problem: Reading novels and wirting papers is a great way to hone in on communication skills. It's also a great way to kill time. While reading and writing are two of my favorite past-times, my love for them is overshadowed by the fact that sometimes love isn't enough. On the other hand, my crush of analyzing feminist theories (too often given the negative connotation of man-bashing), challenged my own preconceived notions about the positioning of women in society, such knowledge doesn't necessarily prove helpful as conversation starters, workplace conversations, and unless I had the opportunity to write for Ms. Magazine, I probably won't get paid for this knowledge alone. Hence the subordinate "crush" status.
Old Faithful: So after realizing the need for practicality in my life, I decided to pursue a Masters degree in Business with a specialization in Marketing. I enjoy matching a product to meet a person's needs. I like helping people -- contrary to popular belief, marketing is essential to raising awareness about certain brands. These brands have the power to change lives! I enjoy marketing. I heart marketing.
The One: As someone who is ruled by their emotions, I would be remiss if I didn't say that a dream life would be one that combines my love of writing, my interest in understanding the inner-workings of women, and marketing. So rather than sit back and debate which of these three desires I should whole-heartedly pursue...I decided that I wanted to have it all. That's right. Call me Selfish. Miss Selfish if you want! Out of my selfish desires, Lady-Eyes emerged....
